Our Vision

We envision a greater society in which all children are provided equal opportunities to become involved, and where dreams and aspirations are realized through positive interactions that embrace curiosity, encourage exploration, build esteem, and provide valuable skills for life.

Our Mission

To create accessible, safe, and inclusive environments outside of school hours by providing unique learning opportunities to Calgary children. We encourage all children aged 7 to 12 to learn together, laugh together, and grow together.

Background

We Did It! School-Age Care Society was established in 2012 to tackle quality and financial barriers within the childcare system—barriers that often lead to poverty and other life stresses.

We are currently in the preliminary stages of implementing programming that promotes integration and inclusion for everyone while fostering the needs of children who reside in single-parent and low-income households, as well as those with special needs. This helps families allocate the majority of their income away from childcare while providing children with opportunities they may not otherwise experience due to the lack of availability, especially for those with special needs, and the high cost of childcare.

Our objective is to implement a more traditional approach to learning by incorporating innovative and educational activities within our programming. Activities are offered in our school-age program (targeting children between the ages of 7-12), as well as in our adolescent workshops, which feature opportunities for children as young as seven and as old as eighteen.

By implementing affordable options that target children from single-parent and low-income households, as well as those with special needs, we envision a place where everyone can reach their full potential. A space where dreams and inspirations are captured, and lifelong friendships are made in an inclusive, innovative, and educational environment. This is a space where children can learn together, laugh together, and grow together.

Our Values

Our Approach

We develop and deliver accessible and affordable programming in a creative and engaging environment, regardless of the child’s ability, to help them reach their full potential. Our programming stems from three core areas: art, culinary, and leadership.

Education

The widespread isolation caused by the pandemic created a greater need for after-school opportunities for children to develop life skills that promote emotional well-being and participate in safe group activities. The pandemic also resulted in the temporary curtailment of our programming; however, we pivoted to offer online classes. We began with art classes and have plans to expand into leadership and culinary skills.

Challenge & Choice

We believe that everyone, regardless of their ability or socio-economic background, deserves equal opportunities for learning and personal growth. We believe that everyone should have an equal opportunity to choose, and that children shouldn’t be forced to participate in any activity they do not wish to be involved in.
